Registration for all the walks are on first come first serve basis.
All walks will start early in the morning (between 6.30am and 8am).
Walkers are advised to carry drinking water, light snacks and wear
light clothes and caps.

on the occasion of the Madras Day.

Tree Walk - 1
A tree walk at the Government Museum Grounds, Egmore from
7.30 am to 8.30 am

Tree Walk - 2
A tree walk in the Guindy National Park on August 26 from 7am
to 8.15 am
Both
the walks will be guided by tree experts and resourse persons. Interested people to call and

A contribution of Rs.25 per head per walk is solicited by Nizhal, the organisers.
Heritage WALKS
Chennai Heritage, which supports Madras Musings is organising two heritage tours.
Both will be conducted by Sriram V and will involve travel by van and on foot.

The buildings of Poonamallee High Road.
Tour begins from the Mayor Ramanathan stadium Egmore at 6.30 am and will cover My Ladye's Garden,
The Victoria Public Hall, Ripon Buildings, The Moore Market location,
the Central Station, the Savalai Ramaswami Mudaliar Choultry,
Siddique Serai, the Southern Railway Offices, the Mutiny Memorial Hall and
the Madras Medical College buildings. Tour will last two and a half hours

Tracing the Dancing Girls of George Town
Tour begins from Marina Beach at 6.30 am and will cover residences/streets of famed
singers and dancers of the past such as Veena Dhanam,
Bangalore Nagarathnam. Salem Godavari, Tiruvarur Rajayee,
Coimbatore Thayi, and Madras Lalithangi. Tour will last 2 ½ hours.
Both tours need to be booked in advance. Each participant will get a
small booklet on the places covered. Participation fee is Rs 300.

PRE-HISTORIC REGION TOUR

Visit to Pre Historic Museum and trek to Gudiyam caves
Starts at 6 am and ends by 5 pm. By van to Poondi, about 80 kms from the city and trek to Gudiyam caves (takes 1 hr. thro' rough terrain). Light breakfast, lunch provided. Fee - Rs. 400 (museum entry fee to be paid by visitors - Rs. 5 fro Indians, Rs. 50 for foreigners). FORT WALK

FORT ST GEORGE WALK
This two hour long walk will take the groups to all the landmarks inside
the fort, first built in 1639, and give walkers a glimpse into the
life inside a city-fort of the East India Company, whose operations
led to the formation of the city. Church, bungalows, barracks, ramparts,
museum . . . .are all inside this fort.

- Walk on both the days are scheduled at 7am from the parking lot outside the fort.
Duration - 2 and 1/2 hours. Entire walk is on foot. No fee. No registration. Open to all. You need to bring water/snacks.
Guides - Dr. Suresh, Archaeologist and Vincent D' Souza. Participants to assemble at the parking lot opp. the Fort / secretariat.
NEIGHBOURHOOD WALK

MYLAPORE HERITAGE WALK
Starts at 7 am. This two hour long walk starts at Luz Church and winds its way through the heritage landmarks, old houses and unique shops and ends in Sri Kapali Temple. Route - Luz, Kutchery Road (partly), Mada Streets.
No prior registration. No fee. Entirely on foot. Starts at Luz Church campus (behind telephone exchange, off Nageswara Rao Park) Conducted by Namma Mylapore
