Heritage Walks

AUG. 17 / SUNDAY

Walk inside the Fort St. George
8 am - Walking tour of Fort St. George. In English. 90 mins. Report at parking lot opp. Fort ( eastern gate). Free.
(Option; Fort Museum opens at 10 a.m. so you can check it out on your own. Admission by ticket).

AUG. 23/ SATURDAY

1. Men and Women of the Marina.
A walk past the buildings on the Kamarajar Salai conducted by Sriram V. Walk ends with breakfast and is partly by van. 6.00 a.m. Prior booking needed. Fee: Rs. 150 per head. Contact: 98400 24200. Organised by Madras Musings.

2. Walk through north Madras Roads.
6.30 am - Starts from Robinson Park (Arignar Anna Poonga) main gate (Opp. RSRM Hospital). Guided by Swahilya.
The walk will take the participants through Maniayakkara Chathram Road (M.C. Road the Liverpool of Chennai!), into West Kalmandapam Road and into Balu Mudali Street and Solaiyappan Street to Maharani and then through Old Washermenpet and back to Anna Park.

3. Chintadripet and Beyond.

4. Living Statues of Marina Beach walking tour.
7:30am. Featuring brief performances and talks at the statues of 1) Kannagi, 2) NSC Bose, 3) Thiruvalluvar, 4) GU Pope, 5) Bharathidasan, and 6) Avvaiyar. English and Tamil. Report at the Kannagi statue. 90 mins. Free.

5. Walking tour of Adyar
7 am from the Theosophical Society (TS) and end in Kalakshetra Colony, Besant Nagar, through Avvai Home, Karpagam Gardens, the KFI (The School) and other points on Besant Nagar.

Nature walk

AUG. 24 / SUNDAY

From Theosophical Society Gate, Adyar

Madras Naturalists Society (MNS) will host a tour of Nanmangalam Forest (city suburb). The scrub forest is known for the famed Great Horned Owl.
Those who wish to join the tour should report at the main gate of Theosophical Society in Adyar (opp. Malar Hospitals) before 6.30 am.
They should have their own transport ( car/bike) because transport is NOT arranged. The group leave TS gate at 6.30 am and drive for 30mins to reach the venue. Open to all.

Tree walks

AUG. 17 / SUNDAY: 7 am to 8.15 am.

1. Tree Walk at My Ladye's Garden. Walkers to meet at the entrance of the Garden at 6.45 am. It will be led by Arun, of KFI. To register, call 2461 6015.

2. Tree Walk is also going to be held at the Anna Tower Park on Aug 17th between 7.30 and 8.30 am, led by Dr. Chitti Babu. Walkers to meet near Yoga Centre inside the Park by 7.15 am. Please register for Walk at 99620 25515 (between 4 and 7 pm).
