At 6.30 pm. The History of the Madras - U.S. Connection.
Madras and the United States share strong historical ties going as
far back as the 17th century. The U.S. Consulate General, Chennai
will highlight these ties during Madras Week Celebrations. In
collaboration with the Indo-American Association, the Consulate is
organizing a panel discussion on “The History of the Madras-U.S.
Connection.”
The discussion will focus on the historic connections between Madras
and the United States. The Consulate welcomes anyone with knowledge
or interest in the Madras-U.S. connection to attend the program,
which is open to the public.
Dr. Deborah Thiagarajan, Founder and President of Madras Craft
Foundation, Chennai will lead the discussion in Chennai. Dr. Susan
Bean, Curator of South Asian and Korean Art and Culture at the
Peabody Essex Museum, Salem, Massachusetts will join in the
discussion via digital video conferencing. Michael Pelletier, the
incoming Public Affairs Officer, U.S. Consulate General-Chennai will
chair the session.
