When coming from Velachery, take the service road along the 2nd Flyover on the Velachery – Tambaram Road, travel around 300 mts and take the U-turn after the Toll Plaza and the Forest Dept. Office is on the left immediatelt after the turn.
When coming from OMR, the office is 200 mts after the Toll Plaza.

Talk: Madras and music by Ghatam Karthick – Aug. 15, 2014

South India Heritage programme.

A presentation on the history of Carnatic music and its luminaries, the various sabhas of our city, the happenings  of the December music season etc.

Begins with a half-hour music and CD-release function of the Madras Youth Choir.  Ms Leela Samson will preside and release the CD.  Highlights of this little function:  A welcome by Mr P C Ramakrishna, songs by children, and release of the children’s CD by Ms Leela Samson.

At 9.30 a.m.

Open only to members of the South India Heritage Programme and their guests of the day and invitees.

Nature in Miniature – Exhibition and Seminar – Aug. 7 & 8, 2014

BODHI, The Chennai Bonsai Association, is conducting an Exhibition and seminar at Women`s Christian College
Chennai, on the art of Bonsai called ‘ Nature in Miniature’
We are inviting the various city colleges for the seminar. The seminar has demonstration, workshop and exhibition ( by members of the bodhi group) and is held in collaboration with the Department of Botany, Women’s Christian College.

Time : 10 am to 5 pm.
On the 7th demo and workshop is for the students of various colleges and 8th is open to the public and is chargeable.

Living Statues of Marina Beach – Walking Tour -Aug. 24, 2014

Brief dramatic enactments of six historical figures (Kannagi, NSC Bose, Thiruvalluvar, GU Pope, Bharathidasan, and Avvaiyar).

The Moment I Decided to Live in Chennai – Storytelling session

There would be two featured storytellers, and then there would be an “open mic” (any attendees would be invited to tell).
Time-limit per per story: ten minutes.

Wednesday 20 August 2014, at 6pm.

Shoot Madras – Photo Contest – Last date for entries – Aug. 15, 2014

Photographic Society of Madras (PSM), founded in Madras 157 years ago, is holding a photography contest during the Madras Week that celebrates the 375 years of Madras.

There are three groups:

1. Student community

2. The employed (and the self employed)

3. The public

There are three themes:

1) My Madras The photographer’s personal tribute to Chennai, depicting what it means personally to him or her. Including typical Chennai views like beaches, eat-outs, city life, cityscapes, scenes against which day to day life in Chennai plays out.

2) Monuments of Madras From the architect’s scrap book, capturing the magnificence of the city’s architecture, from the oldest to Art Deco and the modern architecture of the City.

3) Unusual Madras Strange and unusual happenings in the City. Also the unexpected that breaks tradition and contradicts stereotypes.

Entries may be sent to photomadrasweek14@gmail.com before 12.00 noon on Friday, 15th August, 2014. An exhibition of prize winning entries will be open from 19th August, World Photography Day, to 25h August.

Heritage tour of Mylapore – Aug. 10, 2014

Namma Mylapore conducts the tour led by Dr Chithra Madhavan. The tour by van will start at Luz Church at 7 am and will end at Kapalishwara temple at approximately 9 am.

The places covered will be Kapalishwara temple, Luz Church, San Thome Bascilica and two Vishnu temples near Chitrakulam. The monuments will be explained from the outside only.

The fee for the tour will be Rs.350/- per person.

Inspirational Madras – Photo Contest – Last date Aug. 2, 2014

Navin’s, a leading real estate developer is hosting a photo contest in the city for all the camera lovers.

Participants are expected to focus on capturing utility and functionality aspects of landmark buildings across Chennai.
