Going, Going, G….? – Photography / sketching / painting competition.

Look at some of the historic essences of the city of Chennai that are unique and give the quality of place to it. Choose those essences which you think are rapidly fading. Record through the medium of photographss/sketches/paintings, these fading essences.

The competition is open to all students of architecture, art, design and visual communication in Chennai. The entries should be of maximum size A4. Any number of entries can be sent.
The full name of the participant, institution and entry number (if more than one) should be written on the reverse side of the entry in permanent marker.
The entries have to be submitted by 3.00 p.m on 25th August 2011 at the School of Architecture and Planning, Chennai along with bonafide certificates from the institution.

Chennai 2040 – Idea Design Competition

This competition is intended to trigger ideas for positive change with respect to current urban issues in the context of the city of Chennai. The aim is to generate innovative design solutions of urban interventions through the free flow of ideas.
The competition is open to all architecture students in Tamil Nadu. The presentation should be on a single A2 size sheet. Any number of entries are permitted. Individual as well as group entries with a maximum of three in a group are permitted. The full name of the participant(s), institution and entry number (if more than one) should be written on the reverse side of the entry in permanent marker.

Madras 372 – Quiz for school students – Aug. 28, 2011

The Murugappa Group, which sponsored the mega ‘Madras 350’ Quiz in 1989 to celebrate Madras’s 350th birthday, is this year sponsoring a mega Schools Quiz on Madras.

‘Madras 372’ is open to all schools and organised by popular Quiz Master Naveen Jayakumar and the Quiz Foundation of India.

This is a contest for graphic / fashion / digital designers. For creative people.
Show your creativity in designing a T-shirt for CHENNAI. The design should reflect the spirit, uniqueness of Chennai.

It should also carry the legend – CHENNAI – inside the design or outside it. The design can be done using Adobe / CorelDraw design softwares.

Heritage of Chennai – Multimedia Presentation Contest

For City Schools – 2011

Contest date : Aug. 23, 2011

Last date for submission of entries : Aug. 13, 2011
This contest is held in connection with MADRAS DAY (Aug.22 is the Day) which celebrates our city.

The contest encourages city school students to explore Chennai’s history and heritage and present the topic of your choice in multi-media form.

Buildings and monuments, religious places and tiled houses colonies, forested areas and lakes, institutions – be they cinema houses, schools, business houses … any of these can be the subject of your presentation.

The contest is open to school children studying in classes 8 to 12.
A school can send only one team. Each team MUST have 3 members and all 3 members must attend the presentations.

GUIDELINES for the contest:

1. Identify a lesser known landmark in your area on which you will focus your project on and ask your school teacher to seek the approval of the organisers. (Please do not choose well known places like Central Station / Sri Kapali Temple / Fort St. George/ etc.)

2. Once the project is approved do some research at the desk and then undertake a tour of the place to take pictures on the spot, notes and interview people who can give you more inputs. Take photos and videos – use them in your project.

3. Back at your desk put the project together with pictures and the main points in the Power Point presentation capsule and explanation notes written on sheets of paper. (do not dump all info / text into the PP capsule).

4. At the contest, your team of 3 students will take turns at the mike to present the project using the PP. You can use your notes for reference as your speak.

5. The presentation in PowerPoint on the approved theme will have to be done by all the three participants. It can be done in English or in Thamizh.

6. The duration of the complete presentation – PowerPoint and Oral – should not exceed 10 minutes. Participants should be prepared to answer on-the-spot questions from the judges.

7. Use of the standard design templates in MS Office is only permitted. DO NOT download templates from the Internet.

8. The PowerPoint presentation should be submitted to the organisers on or before Aug. 13, 5.30pm, in a Compact Disc (CD) .

9. The team should retain a copy of the CD and bring it to the venue of the contest. The organisers will provide for a PC and a projector at the venue to help you make a good presentation.

10. Contest is open to first 20 teams to register on first come serve basis.

11. The contest will take place on Aug. 23 from 9 am to 3 pm with a 30 mins. Lunch break at about 12.30 pm. Venue: Srinivasa Sastri Hall, Luz, Mylapore.

12. The best THREE presentations will be awarded TROPHIES, gifts and certificates. All participants will be given certificates. The prize giving function will be held on the same day at about 4 pm.

13. Prizes will be awarded based on quality of research / presentation of old/new pictures-visuals / presentation format and answers to the question posed by the judges.
