Start point; Parking lot opp. main gate of Fort.

Duration – 2 hours

Details: Walk covers landmarks of the Fort and shares some histories that contributed to the making of this city.
Bring water, light snacks.
Prior registration not required. But latecomers may not be able to join the group due to security guidelines.

Heritage Walk & Presentation: Ice House to Vivekanandar Illam – Aug. 18, 2014

Discover how the Ice House  on the Marina became Vivekanandar Illam.
Nithya Balaji and  Kaveri Bharath will present  in English how this historical building housed several wonderful and inspirational figures through the 1800s to 1900s.

Power point presentation with rare old photos, and interesting anecdotes.

Assemble by  5 p.m on 18th Aug. (Mon.), at the Illam premises.

Living Statues of Marina Beach – Walking Tour -Aug. 24, 2014

Location: Meet at the Kannagi Stature, Marina Beach (Bharathi Salai).

Format:
Brief dramatic enactments of six historical figures (Kannagi, NSC Bose, Thiruvalluvar, GU Pope, Bharathidasan, and Avvaiyar).

Languages: Tamil and English.

Heritage tour of Mylapore – Aug. 10, 2014

Namma Mylapore conducts the tour led by Dr Chithra Madhavan. The tour by van will start at Luz Church at 7 am and will end at Kapalishwara temple at approximately 9 am.

The places covered will be Kapalishwara temple, Luz Church, San Thome Bascilica and two Vishnu temples near Chitrakulam. The monuments will be explained from the outside only.

The fee for the tour will be Rs.350/- per person.

Walk inside Govt. Museum, Egmore – Aug. 10, 2014

The Government Museum established in 1851 has one of India’s finest collection of sculptures that span several centuries.
The 45 min walk will focus on select stone sculptures from Tamil Nadu in the ground floor of the main gallery.
We will learn the context of the sculptures and learn how to tell which period they belong to (and you will have a practice test at the end where you score your own test!) and what you can learn from the sculptures for our own lives today.
Meeting place – The seated Buddha just outside the entrance to the stone sculptures gallery (be sure to buy your ticket as you enter the gates of the museum)
