Exhibition: Vintage Bicycle exhibition – Aug. 21, 2022

Over 30 vintage bicycles, including Raleigh customised bicycle that incorporated the Tour de France specifications of 1980s will be on display at the exhibition. Come celebrate Madras Day and get to see the bikes that were once part of the traffic on Madras roads

Heritage Tour: Sunken Colonies of North Madras – Aug. 14, 2022

North Madras residents and artists, Manavalan and Jothi, along with Vincent D’ Souza lead this Tour by van and walk, to colonies north of Kasimedu which are now under water: sharing stories of their lives and loves of times when the colonies existed pre-1970s.
Get closer to social histories of coastal Chennai.

Heritage Walk: Mount Road After Dusk, in the olde days – Aug. 13, 2022

Sharing stories on shopping, printing, entertainment and all after-the-dark acts – as we stop at old-time landmarks, some there, some not there. Off Madras’ most famed road, now called Anna Salai.

Start point; Outside the gate of The Hindu newspaper office.

End point: Buharis restaurant

Walk: Understanding the spirit of Muharram in Royapettah / Triplicane – Aug. 7, 2022

Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar and is considered the second holiest month after Ramadan. It is well known for its historical significance and mourning for the Shahadat (martyrdom) of Ḥusayn ibn Ali, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad. Muslims begin mourning from the first night of Muharram and continue for ten nights, climaxing on the 10th of Muharram, known as the Day of Ashura. The heritage walk takes you to the Ashur Khanas and the streets of Royapettah, giving you an insight into the centuries-old tradition in Madras.

Contest: Chennai Heritage Contest for School Teams – Aug.22, 2020

The annual Chennai Heritage Contest for Schools is back this year.

School team must choose 3/4 streets in one area, dig into their histories and present them in a PowerPoint presentation.
