Book Release: Shorewalk – Aug. 20, 2022

There’s a new book – from Tulika Publishers. Titled ‘ Shorewalk’. Its launch is at Elliots Beach, Aug,20, 6.30 am.

The promo says this – “Most of us go to beaches for fun. But if we can learn how to observe more closely, they can become extraordinarily alive spaces with endless mystery,” says writer Yuvan Aves, a familiar figure on the city’s green scene. Taking off from the Adyar estuary, he shows how “multiple stories are always unfolding here, numerous beings and voices are speaking together – converging and weaving into one another…”
This is Yuvan Aves’ book.
To walk the talk, watch the waves, meet some crabs and launch the book, join Yuvan at Elliot’s Beach – 6.30 am, Saturday, 20 August. This is a Tulika event.

The walk is a paid event of Rs.250/- and as part of it we are giving every registered participant a copy of the book .

Select tales from “Madras Rediscovered”, Seventh Edition, written by Mr S Muthiah, will be presented as stories that will allow the audience glimpses into the history of Madras. These interesting nuggets of history and information will be presented by readers drawn from MLS and ABS, whose common interest is the love for history and the city.

The author, S. Muthiah will also share his experiences in writing the book.

Presentation on the built-up heritage edifices of Mylapore and Royapettah – Aug. 30, 2017

To commemorate the architectural history of Madras, Ashvita Foundation will host a presentation on the built-up heritage edifices of Mylapore and Royapettah. This event will mark the culmination of the first phase of the Vanishing Heritage Project.

The Vanishing Heritage Project is an Ashvita Foundation initiative to document the extant heritage structures of Royapettah and Mylapore. This Madras week we present the culmination of phase-1 of the visual documentation done by our research teams in a step towards protection, conservation and rehabilitation of tangible (particularly built) heritage.

Release of Special Postal Cover – Aug. 22, 2016

Madras Heritage Lovers’ Forum and Archaeological Survey of India, Chennai Circle celebrate the 377th Founding Day of Madras with the release of a special postal cover with the image of First Madras Exchange Light House. This year marks the 220 years of this LightHouse.

The special cover will be released by Dr. CharlesLobo, Chief Postmaster General, Tamil Nadu Circle and the first cover will be received by ‘NalliKuppuswamy Chetti, the guest of honour of the occasion.

Keynote address by Amarnath Ramakrishna, Superintending Archaeologist, ASI (Chennai).

Book Release: Chennai Pattanam Mannum Makkalum – Aug. 21, 2016

Book by Ramachandra Vaidyanath, writer of novels, novelettes, short stories, poems, articles and a large number of translations. He has extensively studied on the pre-history, history of Chennai with special emphasis on the formation of the city and emergence of its citizens. He has dealt with eminent people and ordinary people who lived here ,visited here and created various streams of thought .He has extensively dealt with on the various struggles including struggle for independence. In a way he has placed Chennai City in national historical perspective.

Venue: SBIOA Instotute, Parrys Corner. At 10 a.m.

The event will be presided over by Sri A. Soundarrajan Ex MLA, an eminent trade unionist and president ,CITU. the book will be released by Sri Nalli Kuppusamy Chetty who has himself authored book on Chennai and written preface to the book. The book is received by Sri S.A.Perumal editor, Semmalar. Eminent Chennai historians Sri K.R.A. Narasiah and Sri V.Sriram place their views on the book.
