Exhibition: Magic of the Muse: Madras – Aug. 4 to 22, 2014

At Apparao Galleries, 7, Wallace Garden 3rd Street, Nungambakkam

Diane de Valou is an artist who has been completely taken over by the colours of India. Be it the flowers that adorn the deities, the swishing silks or the devotees, the colourful cinema posters of Kollywood, the luscious fruit in the markets or the multiple dramatic vahanas on the streets. It is the element of colour that is common to all and it is an abstraction of all these colours that find their way in Diane’s beautiful paintings.

Apparao Galleries curates this exhibition to correlate the colour in Diane‘s works with the vibrant palette of Madras. The madness of the streets, the magic of the sounds, the mania of the masses are amalgamated and distilled in to a refined form of colour juxtaposed against each other, dancing and singing in the diversity of the unlikely arrangements that is also Madras today.
