Chennaiyin Gnanaratham – a danceversation: Tribute to Mahakavi Subramania Bharathi – Aug. 23, 2015

“Chennaiyin Gnanaratham” – a danceversation, is a tribute to arguably the greatest genius who lived in the city of Chennai – MahaKavi Subramania Bharathi. It is a combination of folk dance performance and conversation on Bharathiyar’s days in Chennai. Some of the inspiring songs of Bharathi have been specially choreographed using ‘Devarattam’ movements. The dance will be performed by the “’The Folk Repertory’”, a group of amateur artists with passion for folk arts of Southern Tamil Nadu. The narrative delivered in a conversational style, similar to theatre, will include events and places associated with the MahaKavi’s life in Chennai.

Madras Week events of ITM at SIPCOT, Siruseri – Aug. 21, 2015

ITM (Institute of Technology and Management) celebrates Madras Day at Sipcot , Siruseri. Apart from students from neighbouring colleges participating in the day long event, companies and employees in SIPCOT are likely to be a part of it too.

A bullock cart will greet everyone at the Sipcot entrance of Siruseri where ITM campus is located. Filter coffee, goli soda, neer mor, kamarkattu and the likes (typical. Authentic Chennai old delights) will be sold . A free bullock cart ride is also arranged where people will be taken for a ride via ITM campus.
A song has been composed and sung by a student of ITM on ‘Namma Chennai’. Posters are made and a madras day quiz is going to be conducted. The event will be inaugurated by the SIPCOT Director, and a few other prominent citizens of Chennai.
