InKo Centre will host ‘Core’, an exposition of abstract paintings by Chennai-based artist, Pravin Kannanur.
The paintings will commemorate Madras Day by bringing out various facets of the city in the art.
Opens on August 21, 2019 at 6.30 p.m. At The InKo Centre, Boat Club Road.

A Tree Walk inside Nageswara Rao Park in Luz has been organised, starting 6 a.m.
Professor S. Swaminathan will guide walkers, explaining the species inside the park. Participants are encouraged to speak on trees of their liking.

Alliance Francaise of Madras and INTACH Chennai Chapter present documentary film – The Story of Madras … Chennai. The First City of Modern India.
The film is made by INTACH Chennai Chapter with narration by S.Muthiah, Chronicler of Madras and direction by Sujatha Shankar. The film traces the city’s history highlighting its built heritage which memorialises all that Madras has contributed to the subcontinent.

The Sr Citizens Group of Besantnagar (SCGOBN) proposes to honour citizens of Madras who are known for their philanthropy apart from achieving success in their professions.
These awards known as the Pride of Madras awards are presented during Madras week.
These awards have been instituted by SCGOBN in 2015 and are supported by the Rotary Club of Madras Mount. To honour individuals who have gone beyond the scope of normal duties to help the poor and needy especially sr citizens.

A few catalysts of Madras Day are prepared to take a group of school students of North Chennai and of South Chennai to the other side of the city, they may not have seen at all.
That is, North Chennai groups tour a few South Chennai spots, and vice versa.
We have two Guides as volunteers who will lead the tour any morning on convenient dates.
Tour starts outside Fort St George.
Tour of North Madras covers – High Court, Armenian Church, First Line Beach heritage buildings, Royapuram Rail Station
Tour of South Madras covers – Marina beachside landmarks, Light House, San Thome Church and Sri Kapali Temple.
Each tour is for 90mins. One tour per school, independently.
Schools need to bring a group in their bus; teachers to accompany the group. Tour is by bus and free.

This small community is said to have arrived in Madras as early as 1820s. Most people settled in Georgetown and have been engaged in business and trading hardware.
The community has its own mosques, school, community spaces and holds on rigidly to its lifestyle, food, dressing and community gatherings. The Walk gives participants a sense of the people, its spaces and lets you enjoy snacks like handchurned ice creams and samosas.

Note:
– Parking can be a problem. Advise you to figure out your movement to get to start point.
– Be on time, else you may miss out on the tour.
– Bring children who can walk/be active for 2 hours.
– This is a busy business zone so you will have to put up with noise and traffic jams.
– Entry to some spaces we visit is restricted – You pay for the snacks you sample at stalls we stop at.
– Walk ends on Moore Street, Parrys corner.
