Ramesh Raja is an ace street photographer and has taken some stunning pictures of Namma Madras street life. Madras Divya Desa Darshanam – musical discourse – Aug. 22, 2016

Marrying into Madras — a panel discussion – Aug. 23, 2016

Four Chennai expats will discuss the joys, challenges and experiences of marrying a Chennai-ite. They are:

1. Deborah Thyagarajan ( American and art historian. Her husband, the late Mr. Thiagarajan, a businessman.)

2. Miri Vasu from south Korea (she is into hospitality management, her husband P G Vasudeva or Vasu is in the hotel business in Chennai);

3. Shannon Zirkle-Prabhakar, an American photographer, wife of Chennai businessman Rohan Prabhakar

4. Peter Claridge from the UK, businessman and writer, author of the book “Chennai Expat Guide”. Wife: Swapnil Midha, a Punjabi who has lived in Chennai all her life, a marketing and copywriting consultant.

Moderator of the panel discussion: Nina John, a former District Governor of Toastmasters International, an entrepreneur and a business mentor.

Heritage Tour of Fort St George – Aug. 21, 2016

Heritage Walk: Arms and Weapons Gallery at the Government Museum – Aug. 28, 2016

A tour of the Arms and Weapons Gallery at the Government Museum led by Rajith Nair, a heritage enthusiast.
From spears to maces, swords to battle axes, cannons to guns, our Museum has an amazing collection of arms and weapons and they all have a story to tell. Many of these exhibits are also pieces of art. We will jointly uncover the stories behind some of the exhibits on display.

From 11:30 AM-12:30 PM.

Starting Point: The ticket counter near the main entrance to the Museum.

The Banyam Academy of Leadership in Mental Health (BALM) hosts ‘Kind Madras’ – Photography contest.

Kindness is that most human of qualities that sets us apart, yet few show it consistently. Fewer still exhibit it, regardless of circumstances. No act of kindness, however small, is ever wasted (Aesop). Any act of kindness uplifts both the giver of it, and the recipient.

Send us your photographs depicting acts of kindness. There will be two categories of entries, one for those using a camera and another for pictures shot on a mobile phone. The best 3 in each category will be chosen by our esteemed panel of judges comprising film director Mani Ratnam and celebrity photographerG.Venket Ram.

Shortlisted photos will be displayed at the ‘Marina’ restaurant, Haddows Lane, Nungambakkam from 22 nd August onwards.
Celebrity Photographer G. Venket Ram will distribute the prizes on the 24 th of August at 11 am at the ‘Marina’ restaurant, Haddows Lane, Nungambakkam.

The Murugappa Madras Quotient Quiz – Sep. 3, 2016

The sixth edition of The Murugappa Madras Quotient Quiz will be held on Saturday, 3rd September 2016

Book Release: Chennai Pattanam Mannum Makkalum – Aug. 21, 2016

Book by Ramachandra Vaidyanath, writer of novels, novelettes, short stories, poems, articles and a large number of translations. He has extensively studied on the pre-history, history of Chennai with special emphasis on the formation of the city and emergence of its citizens. He has dealt with eminent people and ordinary people who lived here ,visited here and created various streams of thought .He has extensively dealt with on the various struggles including struggle for independence. In a way he has placed Chennai City in national historical perspective.

Venue: SBIOA Instotute, Parrys Corner. At 10 a.m.

The event will be presided over by Sri A. Soundarrajan Ex MLA, an eminent trade unionist and president ,CITU. the book will be released by Sri Nalli Kuppusamy Chetty who has himself authored book on Chennai and written preface to the book. The book is received by Sri S.A.Perumal editor, Semmalar. Eminent Chennai historians Sri K.R.A. Narasiah and Sri V.Sriram place their views on the book.

Inter departmental quiz at Queen Mary’s College – Aug. 22, 2016

Department of Geography, Queen Marys College (autonomous), Chennai is organizing Inter-Departmental Quiz Programme on 22nd August 2016 in celebrating the Madras Day and as well as the centenary of the Department. The organisers have sent requests to the other sister departments to send one team each that consist of 2 students to participating in this QUIZ programme. The first and preliminary round is scheduled on 9th August 2016 where 5 groups will be chosen from the total participants. The final round for these five groups will be held on 22nd August 2016 (Madras Day). The venue of the programme is Assembly Hall, Ground Floor, Queen Marys College, Chennai.
