Where did the idea of a Congress Party originate? Where did Subramania Bharathi’s works first get published? Where did women go on a hunger strike to force their families to allow them to court arrest? Where were Harikatha performances cleverly camouflaged to pass on freedom messages? The answer to all of this is Mylapore. And what better way to celebrate Independence Day than to walk around remembering the role the area played in our freedom movement?
