Art Show: Chennai-Waterless, Watermore – Aug. 30 – Sep 30, 2022

InKo Centre in Boat Club area in R. A. Puram is presenting this show, themed ‘Chennai-Waterless, Watermore’ at The Gallery at InKo Centre. This an exhibition of paintings, dedicated to the spirited people of Chennai who bravely face drought and floods with equanimity.

The exhibition commemorates the Madras Week celebrations.

The exhibition is presented by Art-is, a collective of six artists based in Chennai. The artists who approach water in their distinct styles, individually and collectively delve into the core of their being to present their response to the paucity and excess of water.

The exhibition will open at The Gallery at InKo Centre on August 30 at 6 p.m. -The exhibition will be on display until Friday, 30 September 2022. Contact – 919840013017; 24361224.

Heritage Tour: Nam Madras Museum Trail – Aug. 27, 2022

Nam Madras Museum Trail – covers DPI, College Road; Madras Museum, Egmore, Police Museum, Egmore and Museum of Possibilities, Marina. Mode of transport – Auto. Inclusive tour. Walk ends with lunch arranged by TTDC.

This trail will be inclusive since sign language interpreter is provided and so deaf participants will be able to learn about various heritage sites. Only limited seats are available.
Starts 9.30 am.

Heritage Walk: Three Portuguese Churches – Aug. 28, 2022

Led by Vincent D Souza.
Aug.28 Sunday, Starts 6:45 am – assemble at the rear of St Thomas Cathedral. Free and open to all. 90mins long.
Stop 1 – Cathedral
Stop 2 – Church of Our Lady of the Rosary ( restricted access)
Stop 3 – Church of Our Lady of Light, Luz.
We move from one stop to another by cycle/bike/car, using your own vehicle. Not on foot!
Being a Sunday, access will be restricted, not the story-telling.

Exhibition: Photos and Creative Works of Deaf Artists – Aug. 20 to 24, 2022

This inclusive event “MADRASAPATTINAM 383” is by Madras Photo Bloggers in association with Wright Intended and Museum of Possibilities.

The focus is on Inclusivity and on displaying the city’s deaf artists’ creative work. 15 deaf works will be displayed at the exhibition. It will be a mix of both photos and traditional art. The main aim of this exhibition is to empower the deaf community and how art is important for the members to reflect their thought processes.

The exhibition will be open from Aug 20 to 24.
Venue: Museum of Possibilities, off the Marina beach, near Vivekananda Illam, opp. Namma Chennai selfie point.

Make a thematic photobook of Chennai – Submission by Aug. 28, 2022

Two themes to choose from:
1. Water/water bodies (river, streams, rains, temple tanks, beaches… anything that is water)
2. Heritage & Learning (Museums, heritage places of any kind, places of cultural importance … anything that has a history of its own)

Organise the photos in a Word/PowerPoint/PDF presentation along with information about each of the pictures as a caption below each of them. You can make up to 10 pages and not more.

Be a tour guide for people who visit your neighbourhood and show them around what is unique in your area. Make a PowerPoint presentation with pictures of lesser known places of your neighbourhood. Limit: 8 slides and 8 minutes and be ready.

The 13th year of Madras Week Photowalk of YOCee will be along the Soundarapandiyanar Angadi, popularly known as Pondy Bazaar.
The walk is led by Ramaswamy N, Chennai Daily Photo.

Starting Point: Pavement Near Home Town (Opp Residency Towers Hotel). Starts at 3.30 p.m.
For children of 10 years and above. Parents can accompany, but kids do the clicking.

Picture Postcards release: The Indian Twist’s unique postcards – Aug. 22, 2022

Launch of 10 picture postcards on Chennai, that immerse you in the sights, sounds and mood of Chennai as captured by Chennaivasis, Lovers of Chennai from ages 14 to 50.

Discussions: The Chennai Heritage Forum Session #11 – Aug. 20, 2022

This Madras Week, we aspire to bring together initiatives led by young professionals in history, heritage, and allied fields in Chennai working towards a common purpose – documenting historical narratives and safeguarding the preservation of all forms of heritage. These initiatives have been steadily fostering varied conversations on material memories, and cultural links, and working in the field of architectural restoration. Through a panel discussion on various aspects of Madras’ history, we intend to share their fresh perspectives. We also aim to discuss their missions, aspirations, and roles in today’s society along with ways in which the community can help take their initiatives forward while interacting with the community stakeholders.

The panel will include:
• Ashna Lulla and Vignesh Sivakumar from With Love, Madras
• Keerthana Muralidharan and Aishwarya K V from Conservation Mainstream
• Ashmitha Athreya from Madras Inherited
