The Thiruvotriyur temple of the Thiyagarajaswamy temple is one of the paadal-petra stalams in Madras, and the temple is a vast historical and archaeological trove. Numerous Saivite saints have been associated with this temple but have a close link to Sundaramurthi Nayanar’s life history.
As a part of Madras day walks, Shri. Thiruchitrambalam, Professor Tiruvavaduthurai Aadheenam will lead us to show the ancient musical heritage of Odhuvars and the thirupathigams associated with this ancient temple. The focus is on Sundaramurthi Nayanar’s seventh thirumurai called the “Thirupattu”
The Thevaram verses, with their historic and socio-cultural references, are valuable not just as history but as components of an important intangible cultural heritage.
And Thiruchitrambalam represents the continuity of such a heritage, join the walk on Aug 15th (8 am – 10 am) from the temple gopuram.
