Where did women go on a hunger strike to force their families to allow them to court arrest? Where were Harikatha performances cleverly camouflaged to pass on freedom messages? The answer to all of this is Mylapore. And what better way to celebrate Independence Day than to walk around remembering the role the area played in our freedom movement?

Join historian Sriram V on a journey down memory lane on Thursday, August 15, at 4.00 pm. The tour will also have plenty of recorded music, giving us a flavour of the times.

There would be a brief dramatic enactment of the character portrayed by each statue – Kannagi, NSC Bose, Thiruvalluvar, George Pope, Bharathidasan, and Avvaiyar. In Tamil and in English.
