Why don’t we change back the city’s name back to Madras? Historians prove the word Chennai is not of Tamil origin, while Madras derived its name from Madarasapattinam, a tamil fishing village which existed well before the entry of British. Just as Vishakapatnam became Vizag, Vandavasi to Wandiwash, Madarasapattinam was anglicized to Madras. It’s not an English name. The city should be renamed back to Madras before the name dies out.

Make heritage walks free. The current crowd at Sriram’s walks always has only the rich. Don’t we need people of all backgrounds to appreciate the history of this city?
Also try to live stream the talks. It is very simple to do, I hear.

    Hi,

First of all, hearty congratulations on hosting this event!
Being a native of Madras, this is a great forum to enlighten the people of the rich history of Madras, the study of which is very often neglected in the school textboooks. Madras, being a key area where the very British empire in India was established and spread its arms in India and beyond , the study of history of this great place needs special attention.

    Keep up the spirit!!
