Queen Mary’s College

Queen Mary’s College has planned a colourful celebration to mark Madras Day on August 22, with events in and around its campus.

The event, curated by the department of geography will start with the cutting of a cake at 9.30am and a rally by the students in and around this Marina fronting campus.

Later, T K Krishnakumar, blogger and heritage buff, will speak on a theme focused on the city heritage.

385th MADRAS DAY CELEBRATIONS

August is the time to celebrate the founding of our city- Chennai. The Department of History, Stella Maris College is celebrating the 385th Madras Day Celebrations ‘Mapping Madras’ on 20th and 21st August 2024. As a part of the celebrations we are organizing competitions and exhibitions on the Heritage of Chennai. This exhibition is intended to create awareness on our heritage and the need to conserve it.  We take great pleasure in inviting the faculty and students of your institution to visit the exhibition and participate in the various competitions. Attractive prizes will be given to the winners.

  1. TRADITIONAL COSTUME PARADE : Blast from the Past !

Venue        : SS -Lecture hall                        Time     : 11:00am -12:00pm

Rules         :  3 Individual participants per college

Topic         :  Traditional Tamil attire, European attire, British attire, European women,

Viceroy, Native people of Madras, fisherman, etc.

Participants have to speak a few sentences

Time Limit  :  5-8 minutes per participant

Judgement Criteria  :  Based on Costume, Presentation, Creativity, Props, (Old Madras)


3. CREATIVE WRITING (English)

     Venue       :  HC -1st floor                          Time : 12:00pm – 1:00pm

Rules       :  2 individual participants per institution, bring own stationary

Topic       :  An Evening at the Marina Beach

Judgement Criteria : Based on Creativity, Content
