Ayamara hosts ”In and Around”, a Treasure Hunt rally. A rally that brings in a whole lot of excitement ,a whole lot of fun and tells you how much you actually know about Namma Chennai. This is a contest for graphic / fashion / digital designers. For creative people._

Design a T-shirt for CHENNAI. The design should reflect the spirit, the character of Chennai.

The design can be created using Adobe / CorelDraw design software.

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR ENTRY:

Submit your design as a jpeg file or a PDF file (700 x 700 pixels size of minimum 150 dpi). You may submit your design as a jpeg file via email to – themadrasday@gmail.com

This contest is part of the annual Madras Day 2012 celebrations.

Hertitage of Chennai – Multimedia Presentation contest for schools

This contest is held in connection with MADRAS DAY 2012 (Aug.22 is the Day) which celebrates our city. The contest encourages city school students to explore Chennai’s history and heritage and present the subject in multi-media form.

The subject for this year’s contest is  OLD HOUSES OF OUR CITY.

GUIDELINES FOR THE PROJECT:

Students must first locate a old house ( tiled or Madras terrace house or a bungalow) which is over 60 years old in your area. The house must be a residence.

The team must record the location and ownership history of this house.

It must photograph all the unique and key features of its architecture, inner spaces and vintage properties used by its residents.

It must gather details about these unique features ( roof and walls, rooms and open spaces, etc) and list the purposes they serve to its residents.

 RULES FOR THIS CONTEST:

– The contest is open to school children studying in classes 8 to 12.

– A school can send only one team. Each team MUST have 3 members and all
3 members must take turns to make the presentation. ( No substitutes please!)

– Once you have located the house for study, please call the organiser Mr. Vincent D Souza at 98410 49155 and get the project approved and team members
registered (you must do so before you set out to work on it)

– Back at your desk put the project together with photos and the main points in the Power Point presentation capsule and explanation notes written on sheets of paper.
(do not dump all info / text into the PP capsule).

– At the contest, your team of 3 students will take turns at the mike to present the project using the PP. You can use your notes for reference as your speak.

– The presentation in PowerPoint on the approved theme will have to be done by all the three participants. It can be done in English or in Thamizh.

– The duration of the complete presentation – PowerPoint and Oral – should not exceed 10 minutes. Participants should be prepared to answer questions of the judge/s.

–  Use of the standard design templates in MS Office is only permitted. DO NOT download templates from the Internet.

– On the day of Contest, the team must bring a copy of the CD to the venue of the contest and get it checked ( before 9 am). We advise you to carry your project in 2 separate CDs.

– The organisers will provide a PC and a projector at the venue for your presentation.

– This Contest is open to the first 20 school teams to register on first come serve basis.

– The contest will take place on Aug. 21 from 9 am to 3 pm with a 30 mins.
lunch break at about 12.30 pm. ( you must bring your lunch)

– Venue: Srinivasa Sastri Hall, Luz, Mylapore.

– The best THREE presentations will be awarded TROPHIES, gifts and certificates. All participants will be given certificates. Prizes will be awarded on the same day at about 4 pm.

13. Prizes will be awarded based on quality of research / presentation of
pictures-visuals / presentation style.

This annual contest is organised by MYLAPORE TIMES – The Neighbourhood Newspaper and is supported by L&T.

Photography / sketching / painting competition

Going, Going, G….? – Photography / sketching / painting competition.

Look at some of the historic essences of the city of Chennai that are unique and give the quality of place to it. Choose those essences which you think are rapidly fading. Record through the medium of photographss/sketches/paintings, these fading essences.

The competition is open to all students of architecture, art, design and visual communication in Chennai. The entries should be of maximum size A4. Any number of entries can be sent.
The full name of the participant, institution and entry number (if more than one) should be written on the reverse side of the entry in permanent marker.
The entries have to be submitted by 3.00 p.m on 25th August 2011 at the School of Architecture and Planning, Chennai along with bonafide certificates from the institution.

Chennai 2040 – Idea Design Competition

This competition is intended to trigger ideas for positive change with respect to current urban issues in the context of the city of Chennai. The aim is to generate innovative design solutions of urban interventions through the free flow of ideas.
The competition is open to all architecture students in Tamil Nadu. The presentation should be on a single A2 size sheet. Any number of entries are permitted. Individual as well as group entries with a maximum of three in a group are permitted. The full name of the participant(s), institution and entry number (if more than one) should be written on the reverse side of the entry in permanent marker.

Madras 372 – Quiz for school students – Aug. 28, 2011

The Murugappa Group, which sponsored the mega ‘Madras 350’ Quiz in 1989 to celebrate Madras’s 350th birthday, is this year sponsoring a mega Schools Quiz on Madras.

‘Madras 372’ is open to all schools and organised by popular Quiz Master Naveen Jayakumar and the Quiz Foundation of India.

The Madras Quiz in Tamil – Aug. 27, 2011

For students studying in Tamil medium schools in Chennai.

Students from class 7 and above are eligible to participate in teams of two students. Each school can send three teams.
At P.S. Higher Secondary School, R.K. Math Road, Mylapore, Chennai – 4.

Written prelims followed by six teams on stage for the finals.

Heritage of Chennai – Multimedia Presentation Contest

For City Schools – 2011

Contest date : Aug. 23, 2011

This contest is held in connection with MADRAS DAY (Aug.22 is the Day) which celebrates our city.

The contest encourages city school students to explore Chennai’s history and heritage and present the topic of your choice in multi-media form.

Buildings and monuments, religious places and tiled houses colonies, forested areas and lakes, institutions – be they cinema houses, schools, business houses … any of these can be the subject of your presentation.

The contest is open to school children studying in classes 8 to 12.
A school can send only one team. Each team MUST have 3 members and all 3 members must attend the presentations.

GUIDELINES for the contest:

1. Identify a lesser known landmark in your area on which you will focus your project on and ask your school teacher to seek the approval of the organisers. (Please do not choose well known places like Central Station / Sri Kapali Temple / Fort St. George/ etc.)
Call the organiser Ms Revathi at 98405 44629 and get the project approved and registered (before you set out to work on it)

2. Once the project is approved do some research at the desk and then undertake a tour of the place to take pictures on the spot, notes and interview people who can give you more inputs. Take photos and videos – use them in your project.

3. Back at your desk put the project together with pictures and the main points in the Power Point presentation capsule and explanation notes written on sheets of paper. (do not dump all info / text into the PP capsule).

4. At the contest, your team of 3 students will take turns at the mike to present the project using the PP. You can use your notes for reference as your speak.
