Photo Exhibition: Display of winning entries of Shoot Madras Contest – Aug. 23 to 25, 2019

Photographic Society of Madras, coinciding with the Madras Day Celebration, conducted its Annual Photographic Contest “Shoot Madras 2019”.

The contest closed on August 15, 2019.

The winning entries will be displayed at Tanishq, Anna Nagar from August 23-25, 2019 – 12 noon to 8 pm on all days.

The Valedictory function will be held on August 25, 2019, at 6.30 pm.

Mr Venkatesh Ramakrishnan, Author and Historian will be the Chief Guest for the evening

Walk: திராவிட இயக்க இதழியல் – வரலாற்று நடை – Aug. 24, 2019

பேசி வளர்ந்த இயக்கம் என்று திராவிட இயக்கத்தின் மீதொரு பார்வை உண்டு. அது பாராட்டோ, விமர்சனமோ… உண்மையில் பேசியும், பேச வைத்தும், எழுதியும் எழுத வைத்தும் வளர்ந்த இயக்கம் தான் திராவிட இயக்கம். தென்னிந்திய நல உரிமைச் சங்கம் நடத்திய Justice என்ற ஏட்டின் பெயரால் தான் அவ்வியக்கமே மக்களால் Justice Party என்று வழங்கப்பட்டது. அதன் தொடர்ச்சியாக, தந்தை பெரியார், அறிஞர் அண்ணா தொடங்கி திராவிட இயக்கத்திலிருந்து ஏராளமானோர் இதழ்கள் நடத்தினர். சென்னையின் வரலாற்றிலும், வளர்ச்சியிலும் திராவிட இயக்கங்களைப் போலவே, திராவிட இயக்க இதழ்களுக்கும் ஒரு பங்கு உண்டு. அவற்றில் சில இடங்களையும், சில தடங்களையும் காணும் வாய்ப்பை உருவாக்குகிறது இந்த நடை.

Release of Special Postal Cover – Aug. 22, 2019

Dept. of Lighthouses under Ministry of Shipping is releasing a SPECIAL POSTAL COVER to mark 175 years of Chennai/Madras’ 2nd Light House, now located inside the Madras High Court campus.
R. Anand, IPoS, Post Master General, Chennai City Region, E. Murthy, Director General of Lighthouses and Lightships, D. Venkataraman, Director, Madras Lighthouse participate. D. HJemachandra Rao, historian will deliver an address on the heritage of the 2nd lighthouse structure.

Exhibition: Core – an exposition of abstract paintings – Aug. 21 to Sep.24, 2019

InKo Centre will host ‘Core’, an exposition of abstract paintings by Chennai-based artist, Pravin Kannanur.
The paintings will commemorate Madras Day by bringing out various facets of the city in the art.

Film Screening: The story of Madras – Documentary film – Aug. 20, 2019

Alliance Francaise of Madras and INTACH Chennai Chapter present documentary film – The Story of Madras … Chennai. The First City of Modern India.
The film is made by INTACH Chennai Chapter with narration by S.Muthiah, Chronicler of Madras and direction by Sujatha Shankar. The film traces the city’s history highlighting its built heritage which memorialises all that Madras has contributed to the subcontinent.

Pride of Madras: Award for Philanthropists – Aug. 24, 2019

The Sr Citizens Group of Besantnagar (SCGOBN) proposes to honour citizens of Madras who are known for their philanthropy apart from achieving success in their professions.
These awards known as the Pride of Madras awards are presented during Madras week.
These awards have been instituted by SCGOBN in 2015 and are supported by the Rotary Club of Madras Mount. To honour individuals who have gone beyond the scope of normal duties to help the poor and needy especially sr citizens.

Champions of Chennai: awards event – Aug.17, 2019

The Champions of Chennai awards event is held every year to recognise people of this city who have contributed in a unique manner to the city and its people. People chosen for the award are mostly those who have not been feted often or those who stay out of the arc lights.
