Photowalk: Unveiling stories of park, pettai, peace and police – Aug. 27, 2023

Are you ready to embark on a captivating journey through the heart of Royapettah’s neighbourhood? Join the exciting Photo Walk that promises to reveal this historic area’s hidden treasures and iconic spots in a whole new light.

The photowalk for children is led by Ramaswamy N, Chennai Daily Photo and hosted by YOCee.

Starting Point: Senganthal Park, Avvai Shanmugam Salai, Gopalapuram

Wandering Through Kolaikaranpettai: Our lens will lead us through the lanes of Kolaikaranpettai, a neighbourhood steeped in history and fascination. The very name “Kolaikaranpettai” hints at its intriguing past.

Gaudiya Math: A Tranquil Pause. Our journey takes a serene interlude as we visit the peaceful Gaudiya Math, the history of which, dates back to 1932.

Final Stop: Royapettah Police Station
We conclude the walk at the iconic Royapettah Police Station, a testament to the neighbourhood’s heritage. As the photo walk ends, you will be amazed at the visual narratives your camera has woven – each snapshot a piece of Royapettah’s captivating mosaic.

Only for children studying in classes 7/8/9 accompanied by one parent.

Participants bring an a4 size paper and a box of crayons/sketch pens.

4.30 to 5 pm – storytelling telling in 3 spots of Kapali temple on how Mylapore looked a 1000yrs ago.

For Children: Treasures of the Madras Museum – Aug. 26, 2023

Treasures of the Madras Museum… and some spooky stories.

Relics of our international trade 3000 yrs ago, one of the most beautiful buildings in Madras, fine examples of wood carving to weapons from Tanjore that are more beautiful than gory and some with spooky stories and both the good and evil of Madras under British rule, the Anthropology gallery in the Madras Museum has stories to make us go wow! Or yuck! Hear a few from historian Dr.Pradeep Chakravarthy.

Time 3pm to 4pm
Date 26 Aug 2023 Saturday.
Meeting point – Buy your tickets and meet me beside the black water tank beside the entrance to the Anthropology Gallery at 3PM.

Instructions –

Primarily for children studying in classes 7/8/9 accompanied by one parent. Some exhibits will be weapons with some gory details, so you can feel free to skip that part.

Adults are welcome to attend on their own, though the focus is for children.

3 to 4pm. – storytelling in 5 spots of the Anthropology section of the Museum.

Feel free to wander about after the tour till the museum closes at 5pm.

Contest: Chennai Heritage Contest for School Teams – Aug. 14, 2023

The annual Chennai Heritage Contest for Schools.

School team must choose two very old houses (over 50/70 years) in one area, study and document the special features, share stories of the houses by residents and present in a multi-media form.

Contest date; Aug. 14, 2023, 9 am to 2 pm
