AARDE Foundation, a not-for-profit Trust, is organising a full-day trip to Pazhaverkadu (Pulicat) for heritage lovers to trace Chennai’s origin. This event is on August 23.
Pazhaverkadu, also known as Pulicat, is located north of Chennai, approximately 55 km along the Coromandel Coast. This coastal village is renowned for its second-largest brackish water lagoon in South Asia. Some twenty thousand migratory birds visit Pulicat Lagoon every winter, and its
unique natural heritage is interconnected with Madras history.
The built heritage reflects the history of the first European administration in South India. Xavier Benedict, founder of AARDE leads this guided walk .
The visit covers Pulicat Interpretation Centre, Dutch and Portuguese cemeteries, Adi Narayana Perumal Temple, Tamil mosques, Lighthouse, Portuguese church, and the lagoon. The trip from Chennai will start at 7.00 am from Loyola ICAM gate, Mahalingapuram, on August 23.

This tour offers you an immersive experience of the IIT Madras campus, which is known for its greenery and wildlife. It takes you to various structures of heritage importance to IIT Madras and ends with a visit to the Heritage Centre of the institute.
IIT Madras is the third IIT to be set up in India. Located in the southern part of the city, the forests of the IIT Madras campus support populations of the spotted deer, the endangered blackbuck and many other mammals.
The IIT Madras tours are guided rides through the campus. The guides are IITians, including professors and students. A few of the places that the tour takes you past: Gajendra Circle, Manohar Watsa Stadium, Open Air Theatre (OAT) and the first buildings on campus, Building Sciences Block (BSB) and the Central Workshop.
At the Heritage Centre there will be a screening of Sripad Sridhar’s Journey to Eminence and viewing of archival photographs of IITM.
