Antique Jewellery exhibition – Aug. 22 to 27, 2012

Nathella Sampathu Chetty Jewellers, Anna Nagar has organised an exhibition of finely crafted items that were in vogue until a few decades ago.
The gold and silver artefacts include items meants for a personal use and give glimpseinto a bygone era when the precious metals were still affordable.
The exhibition is on till Aug. 26. Timings 9.30 a.m to 9 p.m.

Adyar Social History Photos – Aug. 26, 2012

At Spaces, No.1, Elliots Beach Road. From 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Open to all.

This show is part of a private project to archive visuals and documents on everything related to the Adyar neighbourhood. The show will have about 25 photos of Adyar in the 50s, 60s and 70s. Roads, campuses, people, activities, beach front, bungalows, etc. Those who possess old Adyar pictures are welcome to share copies.

Photo Exhibition: Sights and Sites of Madras – Aug. 19 to 31, 2012

The Photographic Society of Madras (PSM)was founded in 1857 by Dr. Alexander Hunter and the Honorable Walter Elliot. One of the earliest photographic societies in the world, PSM has a hallowed heritage and was established to bring together photographers and enthusiasts of various hues, to create an opportunity for learning, exchanging ideas, appreciation of the art, exposition of the science, having fun travelling and exploring together.
In its long years of existence, PSM has had members who have been, were and are some of the finest photographers and cinematographers in South India.
This exhibition will have 50  photos on display.

Exhibition of paintings and photographs – Aug. 20, 2011 to Aug. 28, 2011

At C.P. Ramaswamy Aiyar Foundation, Eldams Road, Alwarpet.
Inauguration of Madras Week by Prof M. S. Swaminathan with an exhibition of paintings by A. Ananda Kumar and photographs by the late M. K. Rangaswamy Aiyangar of Madras and its environment.
Kumar graduated from the Government College of Fine Arts, Chennai, in 2011 and is the first degree holder in Fine Arts from his village Koralpakkam in Thiruvannamalai District.

Aiyangar was an eminent photographer of the early 20th century. A scholar of art, culture, religion and music, he wrote many articles on the subjects in leading dailies like The Hindu, Indian Express and the weeklies and magazines of his times. He authored several books, among which Thyagaraja Thatvam and Mahabalipuram – A Guide Book with illustrations of photographs taken by him are noteworthy.
